Advanced Privacy Strategies
The techniques and strategies we are going to look at in this section are beyond that required by the average person but, because a sizeable number of people need a higher degree of protection than average, we will examine in detail the way this is achieved. Many people make the assumption that not wanting to be found or wishing to remain anonymous suggests that, firstly, you have something to hide and, secondly, you must have done something wrong. Of course, it’s quite possible that this could be true although, in reality, most people want to protect their right to privacy for perfectly legitimate personal or business reasons. For example, let’s assume someone wants to sue you in the civil courts or is making threats and the Police can’t or won’t act. Then, in these two situations alone, you might well seek to protect your finances or your safety by distancing yourself from the source of the problems. Regardless of what people might say, protecting your privacy and anonymity is not illegal, it only becomes illegal if you commit a crime or abuse the benefits which can be obtained by using the techniques we will outline here.

At the heart of advanced privacy techniques lies what we call “smoke and mirrors”, in other words it is impossible to see the truth and the goal is that, even if someone sees one part of the picture, they would be unable to separate truth and reality from the illusion that had been created.??The key to success lies in the correct use of all the component parts of the structure because the failure of one component undermines the others. It is for this reason everything has to be done right and constant vigilance is needed to ensure that the secure structure remains secure and that you do not become complacent. The component parts of a privacy enhancing structure generally remain fairly consistent and this makes it easy to outline what will be the most likely services needed to achieve the objective. Below we have summarized the facilities that are needed by over 90% of our clients.

  1. Two secure mail drop addresses - the reason that two are essential will shortly become clear.
  2. A secure landline telephone number.
  3. A secure mobile number.
  4. Maybe a fax but this hinges on your needs.
  5. Secure Email.
  6. Secure Internet Access.

Because all our clients’ needs are different, we are going to assume in this section that you want to disappear completely and not be found. It might well be that this is totally beyond your requirements but, if we work on a worst case scenario, it is sure to meet any degree of privacy needs.??Firstly, we need to look at how a person can be found and the areas which need to be secured to render that virtually impossible. The easiest way to find a person is through two routes, firstly, the phone directory and, secondly, the voters register. If you are listed in both or either of these - in the case of the voters register, an online search can be made in the US and UK - you can easily be found. The phone book is always easy to search no matter where you live if you are not listed or ex directory. To trace a person by these two routes is very simple because, in many countries, you can get all the information from one source.??As an example, let’s take the UK. If you go to UK Tracing  or www.tracesmart.co.uk  you can search a whole variety of public records on one of just two sites or, in the US, it‘s even easier (see Investigations in the USA) . If we now assume our character who wishes to disappear is called Gary Henderson and the person trying to find him knows he lives near Guildford, Surrey, UK but not exactly where, he can start by looking up all the Gary Henderson’s on British Telecom or UK Tracing. Let’s now assume he finds 6, he can then phone each number until he locates the target person. Let’s now assume Mr Henderson is ex directory. This means the next search is the voters register, again at 192.com. Now this gets a bit more interesting because, even if you find 15 Gary Henderson’s, if you know his middle initial or the name of his wife or partner you can search for both names at an address and, bingo, once you find them you have a definite match. Even if you only know Mr Henderson is within a 20 mile radius of Guildford and don’t know if he is married or has a partner, the search is still easy because you just search the GU postcode area then, if you can’t find him, expand the search and move onto neighboring areas such as RH (Redhill), KT (Kingston) and maybe even PO (Portsmouth) as this extends toward Guildford from the South. Even if you take steps not to appear on these two databases then the credit reference bureaus are a potential source of information.??When a client comes to us and asks for help in not being traced, we always ask him if he wants us to see what can be found already. Frequently they are horrified when we come back with girlfriend or wife’s name, address, phone number, date of birth, who he banks with, cards he holds, details of loans and Court judgments etc! So now the question is how can you achieve privacy? The answer is in separating yourself from the past and the ideal time is when you move home because the link is broken at this stage. The check list below ensures that stage one “Separation of Past and Present” will be successful.

1. The solicitor dealing with your sale must be given a mail drop address not the actual address you are moving to.

2. The solicitor dealing with the purchase must be different to the one dealing with the sale.

3. Bank Accounts and Cards must be relocated to a suitable mail drop and not UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES to your new address. In addition, they should be registered to a different address than the one you will use as your future virtual residence and this is because you do not want to connect the old with the new.

4. You should ideally use different utility companies to those at the old address and not give them the previous address because they may add this information to your credit file putting you back to square one. If they ask where you lived, say you lived abroad for several years and have returned. We can arrange a previous address if needed in a suitable country.

5. Connect utilities IDEALLY in a different name to your own and have the bills go to a different address than where the service is provided. In most countries this is simple but, if you hit snags, let us know and we can usually put you in touch with a local advisor. The companies might ask for a deposit but this is a small price to pay compared to the benefits that will be achieved.

6. Always give the people at your old address a new address, ideally the mail drop receiving your forwarded mail and not your new virtual residence. This is crucial so that, if they pass it on, it will not be damaging. Just say to them “we are moving to xxxxxx, if you get any letters or anyone calls can you give them our new details. Here are some address labels for any letters that turn up”. The info they pass on will always be believed by lawyers, debt collectors and busybodies because they think they have had a breakthrough and can bill their client for it accordingly! If you use a foreign address then all the better because you have the option to confuse the person looking for you and feed them false information. Investigators will often phone under pretext saying they have a delivery or that there is a registered letter at the old address. Use this opportunity to spin them around and convey false information. Always remember, if someone is looking for you and employing experts such as tracers and investigators, once you throw in an International dimension the costs rocket and most people give up because the budget just isn’t justifiable.

7. Your mail should be redirected to the same mail drop as the one receiving the bank statements etc and not your new virtual address. Again, think SEPARATION, DO NOT MIX OLD AND NEW.

8. Your phone number at the new actual address should never be used to receive calls directly. Always use a phone number in the location of the mail drop forwarded to your actual number or a non geographic number. The cost of forwarding ranges from free in some countries such as the UK to a few cents in other locations.

9. Of course, the other phone option is to use a mobile. Again, in some countries this is not ideal if mobile call costs are high but, in countries like the US and Canada, a mobile is better than a landline for security and the mobile code is the same as the local area code. For example, in Galveston, Texas the code is 409 for mobiles and landlines but, in other countries such as Australia, mobiles all begin with 4, in Holland and Spain 6 and in the UK with 7 so it’s is easy to determine what is a mobile and what is a landline.

10. The mobile phone bill should go to the mail drop address used for the redirection and bank statements if you retain your old mobile or to the new address if you get a new contract or register a prepay phone. Remember, phone companies register clients with credit reference agencies too.

11. Give old neighbors the mail drop address linked to the old bank accounts and that which receives the forwarded mail NEVER THE NEW VIRTUAL RESIDENCE ADDRESS. Neighbors are the investigator’s biggest source of information, what they don’t know they can’t give out! It is best that family and friends don’t have too much information either but everything here hinges on how switched on they are. We recommend always erring on the side of caution.

12. Always give the mail drops which you use, either another local mail drop near where you live as a forwarding address or, IF YOU REALLY MUST ALTHOUGH WE STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST IT, your physical address but don’t tell them you live there, say you live abroad and mail should go care of - make up a name - who can open it and advise you what’s there.

13. Don’t give the mail drop any personal information. Always set up the mail drop address in an alias or friend’s name and give your own name, if required, as being a friend or associate. If the mail drop needs ID we can get around that in most cases by arranging for a nominee to sign up for the box. If you sign up with us in any case, you are protected as we set everything up with our partner mail drops so the payment is made from here and not directly by you which means they do not have your card number or PayPal account details to give out even if they wanted to. This technique works well for everyone. Although five of the mail drop locations are actually owned directly by us, privacy is always a number one priority within our company.

14. Secure your internet connection! This cannot be over emphasized because, every time you send an email, it reveals the IP address in the properties. There are several solutions but the simplest is a secure surfing tool which is looked at in detail on this site. This provides 100% security in one package by securing your browsing, hiding your IP address and providing secure email. If you just need secure email contact info@sec-data.com who can provide a secure email account with lots of choices of domain at a cost of €42.50 / £30.00 / $55.00 per annum. They provide everything from a basic box for personal mail to a 2GB box for high capacity users.

Assuming you adhere to the points above rigidly, it is virtually impossible for anyone to find you. There is one further ingredient that is very helpful in creating a high degree of privacy and is easy for anyone to arrange. Unfortunately, it is a loophole that still exists in most countries, would be closed if it became widely known but is revealed to every client who signs up with us on request. The item in question relates to making secure payment by card with your name being disclosed. It is very simple but, because it is simple to block the loophole too, we are not going to reveal the actual details except to clients. Once you sign up with us, send a request for the details to info@privacyservices.de quoting reference “Info Request ASCCAPP”.??We will move on now to where you should locate the mail drops. This very much hinges on what you seek to achieve but, to give you an idea, we find US residents regularly choose Canada, UK residents might choose Spain or Ireland, Australians might choose New Zealand and German clients often opt for Switzerland or Austria because all these are plausible locations and combinations. You can, of course, choose a location in your own country but it is not quite as secure although the mail drops we use are very discreet so there are unlikely to be any real issues. The rule is don’t let it be too close. We will outline a typical system used by a UK client who lives in Richmond in Surrey who needed a secure solution in the UK because he is a well known celebrity and speed of receiving documents was essential. We designed a purpose built solution with the components below:

1.  A primary mailing address in Plymouth, Devon.
2.  A secondary address in Kensington, London.
3.  An 01752 phone line in Plymouth diverting to Richmond.
4.  A fax line in Plymouth again forwarding to Richmond.
5.  A Kensington fax number.

This is how it works. His agent and other contacts phone the 01752 XXXXXX Plymouth number which diverts to his house in Richmond, he then emails or faxes them any documents to sign or vice versa which they return to the Plymouth address. They open the post in Plymouth and fax the documents to an inner London telephone number, 020 7298 XXXX, enabling him to action everything same day. The mail drop then sends the signed originals first class post to the Kensington address or, if he needs to send anything, he sends it to Plymouth who re-mail it so it arrives with a Plymouth postmark. Mr xxxxx then goes to the Kensington mail drop on Mondays and Thursdays to collect the post and this works well for him because he meets friends in Central London for dinner or drinks on those two days. The mail drop staff never see him because he has a key to the secure box and collects the mail after hours which avoids fans and other hassles.??This is just an example but there is no end of options and we can always work out exactly what would be the ideal solution for your personal needs.??The key to remember is that a second mail drop in a chain means someone has to get through two mail drops to get to you and that is going to be very difficult. In addition, if mail drop 2 has the address of mail drop 1 as your actual location and mail drop 1 has the address of mail drop 2, they know nothing in any case that is harmful so what they don‘t know they can’t disclose. If you have a collection point with 24 hour access and always collect the mail from the box personally, that also makes things difficult because someone has to watch the box 24/7 until you show up. If you add boxes in other countries, things become incredibly difficult. Let’s assume the scenario above is changed to encompass different countries, look how it changes the picture.

1.  A primary mailing address located in Zurich, Switzerland.
2.  A secondary address in Kensington.
3.  A local phone line in Zurich diverting to Richmond.
4.  A fax line in Zurich again forwarding to Richmond.
5.  A Kensington fax number.
6.  A Swiss email address and domain

This immediately becomes vastly more secure because they need to know where Zurich sends the mail and where the phone numbers terminate. They cannot even be sure you are not actually in Switzerland. The cost of running this system is not much dearer than the first example and, oddly, the cost of routing the calls from Zurich to the UK is just 7c per minute or 5p, less than the cost of the call from Plymouth to Richmond on a British Telecom line which costs 11.2c or 8p per minute.??This section outlines just the basic options and gives food for thought. Whatever your needs, just phone or email us and we can look at your personal situation and make an assessment of the ideal solutions for you personal needs.
