Secure Private Network /
Confidential Encrypted Internet Connections (VPN / Virtual Private Networks)

For maximum email and internet security the key is a secure  encrypted tunnel. This is the most secure and fastest way to secure your Internet connection. A Secure-Tunnel is easy to setup and automatically routes all outgoing traffic through the secure encrypted tunnel to a server in a suitable jurisdiction. The tunnel works with any operating system including MAC and Linux and configures in minutes using simple step by step instructions. A virtual private network (VPN) is a network that uses the Internet to route all traffic at high speed via a remote server. An example is you could be based in Germany but wish to appear to be in Switzerland and this is easily achieved by arranging access to a suitable Swiss data centre.  The vital benefit from a privacy perspective is that a VPN works by using a standard high speed internet connection while maintaining privacy through security features such as the Layer Two Tunneling Protocol. In effect the data is encrypted at the sending end and then decrypted at the receiving end making it virtually impossible to intercept between the two locations. An additional layer of security is achieved by encrypting not just the data, but the originating and receiving network addresses as well.

Maintaining online security is an increasing headache and something all Internet users need to keep in mind. The prime concern is that rapidly evolving new technologies such as smart phones, Netbook and other devices when combined with easy internet access via open WiFi networks are essentially both a blessing and a curse! This is because on the one hand they make the Internet more accessible but on the other hand expose you to the risk of Data interception. This is where the re-routing of your internet access through secure servers offers complete security.  The reason for this is that the network you use in the local coffee shop or at work might not be secure or could be monitored by any variety of people but the offshore network is totally secure meaning that anyone looking at your activity or trying to determine what you type on the browser such as bank details or anything else for that matter can’t see the content or even the URL you went to. So what can they see? In essence only that you are connected to a computer network somewhere else but because the connection is encrypted the data is therefore secure so although if they know what they are doing they might see you are logged into 91-54-749-539.dynamic.anywherevpn.net it won’t do them any good because it tells them nothing.

I mentioned above smart phones, I am referring of course to Blackberry’s, iPhones and the various other products which can access the internet. Until three or four years ago I did not worry too much about security for my smart phone which at that time was a Nokia Communicator, now it is a totally different story. I carry an iPhone wherever I go and tend to access networks virtually everywhere I can find them. An example was yesterday I wanted to make a lengthy call and needed to find a WiFi network in order to access Truphone see http://www.truphone.com/  this is an excellent service and I highly recommend it. The problem was that I was in a location where I could not find a suitable network so I did what I always do in this situation which is find a nice large block of apartments and scan for an unsecured network. My primary concern  yesterday was that a client had paid for a 1 hour conference call and consultation which meant that security was vital.  The area of concern when you’re using a cell phone, PDA or any other handheld device to connect to the Internet is that the call content or private data is at a high risk of interception. For this we have a solution which is a VPN gateway for mobile devices which guarantees the strongest encryption and secures all data as it travels wirelessly. Considering it costs only around $100 or GBP60 per annum it is a bargain considering the alternative!

There are a range of options depending on your personal needs. Below are some of the services which we can arrange.

  • Fast and easy configuration with encrypted VPN access to secure a laptop or desktop computer.
  • We offer a variety of services which give great flexibility in selecting your level of identity protection
  • Security solutions for cell phones, PDA and other handheld devices
  • Secure Email Solutions
  • Anonymous Browsing
  • Access to out of area web TV channels.
  • We have solutions for all operating systems e.g Windows, Mac, Linux - even Google OS!

As far as cost is concerned it tends to vary but it is never very costly unless you have unusually complex requirements. To give you an idea lets assume you need a secure connection via a high speed data centre in Switzerland. We would recommend a point-to-point tunneling protocol (PPTP) this is the norm for a secure VPN and is supported by all the major operating systems. Now to make it more secure we add 128-bit MPPE encryption using authentication protocol MS-CHAPv2. As if this was not enough lets throw in a SSL/TLS secured channel for authentication and key exchange using the Blowfish encryption algorithm to ensure the connection process itself is 100% secure. This structure is outrageously strong but is still easy to set up in minutes and can be turned on and off in 2 seconds when needed. I have set this service up for clients and even without my help they are up and running in 5 or 10 minutes by following a simple set of instructions.  As far as cost it runs at $125 / GBP80 / EUR90 per annum.

The key when securing your connection is knowing what you need, how to be sure it works and making sure it is user friendly. Fortunately this is where we come in because we have arrangements with over 170 data centres in 37 countries so almost anything can be up and running in 24 hours.
